The first purpose-built mosque in the United States is the Mother Mosque of America in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, completed in 1934. While some sources mention earlier mosque buildings, like the one in Biddeford, Maine, or the Highland Park Mosque in Detroit, the Mother Mosque of America is recognized as the oldest still-standing purpose-built mosque.

It's a tiny little building out in the middle of the field. There was a small cemetery. Beware of the prairie dog town. There are holes all over the place. I wish there was an interpretive panel to explain more about it.
